Small wood relief carved in the shape of a Hindu deity, wearing diadem, with four arms, sitting cross-legged on a lotus throne, in a niche surrounded by a stylized flaming aureola. Himalayan Region, 16th century, probably earlier. Height: 3 3/8" (8,5 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Obvious signs of great age, otherwise good condition. Note: this relief was certainly part of a larger architectural ornament.

SOLD 

Cosmetic palette of circular shape. Obverse carved with a chimera on top, and geometric design on bottom. Reverse incised with stylized lotus design. Green schist, with soil encrustations in some areas. Pakistan, Gandhara graeco-buddhist art, circa 3rd century. Diameter: 4 1/2" (11 cm). Chips around the rim, otherwise good condition.

Small mask of slightly unusual shape, with a striated conical coiffe, small forehead, incised eyebrows, small ears, downcast relief eyes pierced through, triangular nose, open rectangular mouth showing teeth, small chin. Wood, dark-brown glossy patina, remnants of kaolin in the recesses. Africa, R.D. Congo, Pende peoples. Height: 10 1/4" (26 cm). Euros 150 

A beautiful and very fine solid silver tribal pipe which belonged to a member of the Lawa Tribes who live in the Golden Triangle Region, North of Burma, Thailand and Laos, the area where opium is grown. The bowl is in the stylized shape of a poppy, while the stem is nicely curved and adorned with geometric design. North Laos, 19th century. Fine darkish patina. Obvious signs of use and age. A very attractive and genuine old piece of tribal art of the Golden Triangle.

Female figure with typical coiffe, large oval eyes, small ears, triangular nose, open mouth showing teeth, cylindrical neck, muscular shoulders and arms, conical breasts, cylindrical abdomen with protruding navel, bent legs resting on small feet. A tenon at the lower back side was used to attach the figure to the reliquary box. Large and important vase, of bulbous body shape, surmounted by a narrow cylindrical neck, resting on a circular base. Porcelain, with whitish, slightly crackled, enamel nicely covered with an overall layer of sang-de-boeuf enamel. China, Qing Dynasty, 18th century. Height: 17 1/4" (43,5 cm). Tiny kiln defects on body, tiny chips around base, otherwise excellent condition.

Iron sword guard ("tsuba"). Superb silhouette decor forming two concentric circles and an arrow point design on top and bottom at the center. The tsuba is signed "Shoami Shigenobu Saku". Japan, 18th century. Height: 2 7/8" (7,4cm). Excellent condition despite some erosion and oxidization.

Face mask, protruding forehead, large ears, pierced through oval eyes, small nose with pierced through nostrils, open pierced through rectangular mouth. Wood, with dark encrusted patina. Remnants of small metal pieces around mouth and chin, which were meant to attach goat skin or animal hair, to represent a moustache and beard. Himalayan Region, early 19th century, probably earlier. She also wears earrings, and eroded remnants of a necklace can also be seen above her breasts. Her slightly smiling face reflects a profound inner serenity. Grey sandstone.
