"Edan" in the shape of a statue representing a female figurine, with conical coiffe, small ears, large eyes and nose, long neck and torso, small breasts, wearing an elaborate skirt, kneeling on a round base. Old oliphant, carved at its top in the shape of a king sitting cross-legged on a round stool and holding a scepter with both hands, surmounting two slaves in relief on each side, its back opening in the shape of a mouthpiece, and ending at its base in a large opening. Pair of "edans", each with a head on top of the shaft, with conical hat, elaborate coiffe and loop on top for attachment, and a bow tie style decor on the lower side of the shaft. One of the edans has a small chain attached to the loop: this chain was originally supposed to link the two heads together. Bronze, with fine reddish-green patina (a sign of old age). Important ceremonial dagger, its sheath made of wood covered with leather and decorated with shells, its iron blade with double curve shape and a slightly ribbed center, its handle made of ivory with a sculpted in-the-round ancestor statue at its top. Beautiful patina both on the ivory and the sheath, while the blade is largely oxidized. Africa, Ivory Coast, Baule Peoples. Height (altogether): 18" (45,5 cm). Very good condition despite obvious signs of use and age.

Very old face mask, of oval shape, its forehead surmounted by a tiny female figure and decorated with protruding scarifications, small ears, pierced through slit eyes, long and thin nose, tiny mouth in relief, receding chin. Small group showing two human beings, one female and one male, sitting on a high platform, with two superimposed animals (probably chameleons) between them. Bronze, fine dark-green patina with numerous reddish areas (a sign of great age), which suggest that the piece dates back to the 19th century, maybe earlier. Traces of soil encrustation.
