SOLD 

Long spoon with a finely shaped main part, its stem ending in a stylized bird neck and head in relief. Bronze, with green encrusted patina. Pakistan, Gandhara Region, 1st to 3rd century. Length: 7 1/4" (18,5 cm). The spoon is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Very good condition despite its great age. A rare and striking piece.

SOLD 

Small relief representing the birth of Buddha. The scene is carved under an architectural ceiling, and shows Maya, the Buddha's mother, standing and holding a tree branch with her right hand, the baby Buddha protruding from her right thigh and a bodhisattva catching the baby in his hands. The couple is assisted by two other characters. A pillar of typical Greek architecture is carved on the left. A hole is drilled through to allow attachment of the relief to a stupa wall.
