Nicely carved mask representing the face of God Kaishan, with a fierce expression, two horns, tubular eyes, flat nose, open mouth showing teeth and fangs, large ears. On its forehead, a band with a coin symbol in the middle. Wood, with black and red lacquering. China, 19th century. Height: 9" (22,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Face mask elaborately carved representing the face of Tudi, or Tudigong, the God of the Soil and of Cereals. Wood, with dark-red and black lacquering. Strands of hemp are affixed with wood pegs into tiny holes under the cheeks and the chin, to suggest a moustache and a beard. China, 19th century, maybe earlier. Height: 9" (22,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Obvious signs of use and age, otherwise very good condition.

Face mask representing the face of Tudi, or Tudigong, the God of the Soil and of Cereals. Wood, with superimposed layers of polychrome pigments. Strands of animal hair (several are missing) were affixed into tiny holes under the cheeks and the chin, to suggest a moustache and a beard. China, 19th century, maybe earlier. Mask representing the face of Kuan Yin, a Buddhist deity (originally Bodhisattava Avalokiteshvara), wearing a crown on which a stylized representation of Amithaba Buddha, sitting cross-legged in meditation posture, is incised at the center front and framed by an incised floral design.
