Statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, in monk's robes, his face reflecting a profound inner serenity, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" ("taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings"), sitting cross-legged. Bronze, with fine green patina. China, Ming Dynasty period (1368-1644). Height: 8 6/8" (22 cm). Small casting flaws at the back and right side, otherwise very good condition.

Small statue of a Buddhist monk, or "lohan" (Buddha's disciple), standing in praying posture. Bronze, with gilding on the face and hands of the statue. Reddish green patina. Head Of Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy (a Chinese personification of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara), wearing a diadem on the front of which a small, highly stylized, Buddha Amithaba on a lotus is carved in relief, her face reflecting a profound inner serenity. Very old statue of an unknown god, wearing formal robes and cap, sitting on a throne. Votive box open without any content left. Wood. China, early Ming Dynasty, most probably earlier. Height: 10 3/4" (27,5 cm). Good condition despite erosion all over due to great age.

Statue of Kuan Ti, or Kuan Yu, the God of War, standing on a rounded base in an agressive posture, wearing military costume. His hands were probably holding a sword and a spear, now gone. Wood, with remnants of polychrome pigments. Tiny holes around the eyebrows, under the nose and over the chin were probably used to contain animal hair inserts to suggest real eyebrows, moustache and beard. Statue of Guan Yu, the God of War, in military costume, standing in martial posture on an hexagonal base. Votive box at the back, lid and contents missing. Very fine carving, nice details. Wood, with remnants of the original lacquering and gilding. China, 18th century, maybe earlier. Height: 9 6/8" (24,8 cm). Right arm missing, otherwise good condition. Note: Guan Yu, the Chinese God of War, was formerly a hero, and was deified later.

Small statue of Buddha Amithaba, in meditating posture, sitting cross-legged on a double lotus throne. Votive box at the back, its lid missing. Lacquered wood, with remnants of the original gilding. China, 18th century. Height: 3 7/16" (8,7 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Very good condition despite a large chip at the back. A fine little statue.

Statue of a dignitary in formal attire, holding his mandarin tablet("hu" in Chinese language) in both hands, and standing on a square pedestal resting on four feet. The face bears a strong Tang Dynasty stylistic influence. Bronze, with dark-gren patina, and remnants of the original gilding. The statue was cast in China during the Ming Dynasty (1368~1644 A.D.). Head of a dignitary, or general, wearing formal cap. Pink sandstone, weather patina, with numerous remnants of polychrome painting. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Height: 10 1/4" (26 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom black plexi stand. Chips in some areas, erosion all over, otherwise very good condition. Note: this head is very similar in style to the dignitary statues that border the alley leading to the Ming emperors tombs, North of Beijing, in China. A superb piece.
