Head of a dignitary, or general, wearing formal cap. Pink sandstone, weather patina, with numerous remnants of polychrome painting. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Height: 10 1/4" (26 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom black plexi stand. Chips in some areas, erosion all over, otherwise very good condition. Note: this head is very similar in style to the dignitary statues that border the alley leading to the Ming emperors tombs, North of Beijing, in China. A superb piece.
