Small altar containing a statue of Buddha in meditation posture ("dhyana mudra"), sitting cross-legged on an elevated lotus throne with a mandorla at the back. Lacquered and gilt wood, the doors of the altar with brass hinges and decoration. Japan, 19th century. Height: 7 1/2" (19 cm). Some flaking on the front and back bottom of the altar, otherwise good condition.
