Statue of crowned Buddha, in royal attire, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" (taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings), sitting cross-legged on a tall throne. A hole at the top of the crown suggests the presence originally of a finial, now gone, while a hole at the back means that the statue was held firmly in a niche via a tenon. Plate, decorated with the Thai "black crow" motifs on the interior, and with three cursory lotus panels on the exterior, the greyish celadon body with a shallowly pitted slumped base, with short footing and clear, finely crazed glaze. Diameter: 7 7/8" (20 cm), height: 1 5/8" (4 cm). Thailand, Kalong ware, circa 14th to mid-sixteen centuries. Tiny flakes in some areas, small crack at the rim (see photo), some erosion, otherwise good condition.

Statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, in monk's robes, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" (posture showing Buddha taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings), sitting cross-legged on a high lotus throne. Inscriptions at the back of the throne. Embossed silver encasing a resin core. Burma, 19th century. Height: 7" (18 cm). Slight dent at the lower part of the face, top of head partly missing, otherwise very good condition. A very fine piece. Ex. old French collection.

Small statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, faceless, wearing monk's robes, in "bhumisparsa mudra", sitting on a semi-circular platform. Tiny hole beneath. Lacquered and gilt wood. Burma, 19th century. Height: 5 1/4" (13,3 cm). Age crack around the neck (no danger), otherwise very good condition. A very nicely carved statue.
