Highly unusual fetish made from a hornbill, with a superbly carved relief decor of a battle around a temple or palace on the front, and a carved relief decor of a tiger on the beak. The back is closed with a reddish plaster, to allow the hornbill to contain magic material, thus the strong rattle noise when the piece is shaken. Jarlet or bottle, with two ring handles, carved footring with dropped base, celadon glaze on brownish body. Traces of soil encrustations in some areas. Thailand, Sawankhalok kilns, ca. 14th to mid-16th centuries. Height: 4 1/2" (11,2 cm). Very good condition.

Plate, decorated with the Thai "black crow" motifs on the interior, and with three cursory lotus panels on the exterior, the greyish celadon body with a shallowly pitted slumped base, with short footing and clear, finely crazed glaze. Diameter: 7 7/8" (20 cm), height: 1 5/8" (4 cm). Thailand, Kalong ware, circa 14th to mid-sixteen centuries. Tiny flakes in some areas, small crack at the rim (see photo), some erosion, otherwise good condition.

Statue of a snarling deity sitting on a rounded triangular base. Bronze, with partly encrusted green and red patina. Indonesia, Borneo Island, Dayak Peoples. Height: 6 3/8" (16 cm). Very good condition. A rare piece. Note: the statue was acquired in Indonesia in 1974.

Small lime box of oval shape, its lid opening on four small compartments. Nicely patinated bronze, with numerous silver inlays all over the box representing floral and geometric patterns. Philippines archipelago, Mindanao island, 19th century, maybe earlier. Good condition despite two lids missing. A rare piece and a fine example of islamic art.

Statue of Buddha, in monk's robes, his beautiful, slightly smiling face reflecting a profound inner serenity, standing on what must have been a round lotus throne, now missing. Statue of crowned Buddha, in royal attire, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" (taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings), sitting cross-legged on a tall throne. A hole at the top of the crown suggests the presence originally of a finial, now gone, while a hole at the back means that the statue was held firmly in a niche via a tenon. Very old mask, with flat top, protruding forehead, eyes in relief, long distorted nose, large mouth with protruding lips. Remnants of black pigments on the sides, the eyes and the mouth.
