Plate, decorated with the Thai "black crow" motifs on the interior, and with three cursory lotus panels on the exterior, the greyish celadon body with a shallowly pitted slumped base, with short footing and clear, finely crazed glaze. Diameter: 7 7/8" (20 cm), height: 1 5/8" (4 cm). Thailand, Kalong ware, circa 14th to mid-sixteen centuries. Tiny flakes in some areas, small crack at the rim (see photo), some erosion, otherwise good condition.

Statue of Buddha, in monk's robes, his beautiful, slightly smiling face reflecting a profound inner serenity, standing on what must have been a round lotus throne, now missing. Wood, with large remnants of the original lacquering and gilding, and numerous glass inlays. Glass eyes. Burma, 19th century, maybe earlier. Height: 14 1/2" (37 cm). Statue of crowned Buddha, in royal attire, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" (taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings), sitting cross-legged on a tall throne. A hole at the top of the crown suggests the presence originally of a finial, now gone, while a hole at the back means that the statue was held firmly in a niche via a tenon. Very old mask, with flat top, protruding forehead, eyes in relief, long distorted nose, large mouth with protruding lips. Remnants of black pigments on the sides, the eyes and the mouth. Two holes for attachment on each side. Strongly eroded wood with brownish patina. Indonesia, Borneo Island, Dayak Peoples, Kayan sub-group. Height: 11 1/4" (28 cm).
