Standing female figure, finely carved head with scarifications, broad shoulders, arms half raised, conical breasts, protruding abdomen, slightly bent legs resting on rather large feet. Wood, with thickly encrusted patina coming from sacrificial material. Africa, Burkina Faso, Bobo Fing Peoples. Height: 17 1/2" (44 cm). SOLD 

Rare chief sceptre in the shape of a phallus, surmounted by a geometric design, and four heads surrounding a hole at the very top. Wood, with thick dark encrusted patina. Africa, Mali, Bamana Peoples. Height: 9 7/8" (25 cm). The sceptre is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. A rare piece in very good condition.

Lime box of semi-cylindrical shape, with embossed decor showing a stylized lotus on top of lid and geometric ring decor at four different levels. Silver, with fine darkish patina. Laos, 19th century. Height: 5 5/8" (14,5 cm). Remnants of lime inside. Obvious signs of use and age, several tiny dents in various areas, otherwise good condition. SOLD 

Snuff bottle of rounded shape, "tao tie" mask carved in relief on each shoulder. Banded agate, white stone bands on a translucent caramel ground. Well hollowed out (very light). Lapis and brass stopper, agate spoon. China, 19th century. Height: 2 1/4" (5,7 cm). Erosion and tiny chip around rim, otherwise very good condition.

Small statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, in monk's robes, sitting cross-legged, his hands in praying posture ("namaskara mudra"). Wood, with dark-brown encrusted patina, traces of plaster and lacquering in the recesses. China, early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Height: 3 1/16" (7,8 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Good condition despite its great age.

Large mask in the shape of a stylized lion head, protruding forehead, bulging eyes, large snout, massive upper jaw. Two large holes at top of forehead, and one large hole at each lower side of jaw, the latter to attach a handle inside the mask. Small holes around the upper side of the rim, probably for attachment of a costume, or hair to represent fur. Wood, with numerous layers of polychrome pigments, ancient patina. Pendant carved in the shape of two stylized birds facing each other. Light green jade, with reddish inclusions. China, 18th century, probably earlier. Length: around 2 1/4" (5,7 cm). Tiny chips in a few areas, erosion due to use and age, otherwise good condition.

Face mask representing a grotesque character. Wood, with black glossy patina. Eastern Himalayan Region, Monpa-Sherdukpen Peoples, 19th century, maybe earlier. Height: 10" (25 cm). The mask is mounted on a custom metal stand. Old insect infestation (no danger), old accident beneath chin (burn, see photo), otherwise very good condition.

SOLD 

A group of sixteen bronze bracelets stuck in a gangue of hardened soil, in the middle of which remains of forearm bones are still caught. This set is sold together with a set of several bracelets and parts of bracelets, made of bronze, coming from the same site and period. This group was found in the Ban Chiang prehistoric site, in Northern Thailand, some 40 years ago. It dates back to the Bronze Age, circa 3500 B.C. Face mask carved in the shape of a smiling face wearing an official cap. Wood, with numerous superimposed layers of polychrome pigments. Remnants of a Chinese character on top of the cap. A series of tiny holes under the cheeks and on the chin suggest the former existence of a moustache and a beard, probably some animal hair. China, early 19th century, maybe older. Height: 9" (23 cm).
