Standing female figure, finely carved head with scarifications, broad shoulders, arms half raised, conical breasts, protruding abdomen, slightly bent legs resting on rather large feet. Wood, with thickly encrusted patina coming from sacrificial material. Africa, Burkina Faso, Bobo Fing Peoples. Height: 17 1/2" (44 cm). Lime box of semi-cylindrical shape, with embossed decor showing a stylized lotus on top of lid and geometric ring decor at four different levels. Silver, with fine darkish patina. Laos, 19th century. Large mask in the shape of a stylized lion head, protruding forehead, bulging eyes, large snout, massive upper jaw. Two large holes at top of forehead, and one large hole at each lower side of jaw, the latter to attach a handle inside the mask. A group of sixteen bronze bracelets stuck in a gangue of hardened soil, in the middle of which remains of forearm bones are still caught. This set is sold together with a set of several bracelets and parts of bracelets, made of bronze, coming from the same site and period. This group was found in the Ban Chiang prehistoric site, in Northern Thailand, some 40 years ago. It dates back to the Bronze Age, circa 3500 B.C. Face mask carved in the shape of a smiling face wearing an official cap. Wood, with numerous superimposed layers of polychrome pigments. Remnants of a Chinese character on top of the cap. A series of tiny holes under the cheeks and on the chin suggest the former existence of a moustache and a beard, probably some animal hair. China, early 19th century, maybe older. Height: 9" (23 cm).
