SOLD 

Face mask carved in the shape of a smiling face wearing an official cap. Wood, with numerous superimposed layers of polychrome pigments. Chinese character on top of cap ("happiness"). A series of tiny holes under the cheeks and on the chin suggest the former existence of a moustache and a beard, probably some animal hair. China, early 19th century, maybe older. Small cup of classical shape, adorned with stylized "dorje" design all around foot. Inscription inside rim (probably "Om Mani Padme Om"). Solid silver. Tibet, early 18th century. Old restoration and small crack around rim, dent at one side of foot, otherwise good condition.

A statue of goddess Uma, standing and wearing a sarong with adorned central sash, her belt decorated with rows of jewels. She also wears earrings, and eroded remnants of a necklace can also be seen above her breasts. Her slightly smiling face reflects a profound inner serenity. Grey sandstone. Cylindrical box, made of bamboo, decorated with nice incised geometric design on the upper part of the lid, the rim and the lower part. Dark-brown patina, encrusted in some areas. SOLD 

Fire lighting implement consisting in a piece of iron, a piece of fabric and a fragment pf flintstone, the whole set contained in a rattan cylidrical box. This implement belonged to a member of a tribe located in Palawan Island, South West of the Philipino Archipelago. Such tribe, like a few others in this island, has in some aspects remained in the Stone Age. It was put under the protection of the Philipino Government some 30 years ago. Reliquary head, of typical style, surmounting a large and long neck with a flat bottom. Wood, with fine glossy dark-brown patina. Small bronze eyes. Africa, Gabon, Fang Peoples. Statue of a horseman. Terracotta, coloured with black pigments. Africa, Cameroon, Bamun Peoples. Height: 7 3/4" (19,7 cm). Several chips, right ear of horse missing, otherwise good condition. Note: this piece belonged to an old French collection, and was collected in Cameroon in the early 20th century by ts former owner.
