Unusual hermaphrodite figurine, in standing posture, typical Pende style head, large and long neck with a goitre, narrow shoulders, small breasts, arms alongside narrow torso but hands not touching hips, small male genitalia, bent legs resting on stylized feet. A small fabric belt is tied around the hips. Wood, brown glossy patina, except for the area around the eyes that has been kept clear. Small bowl, ceramic, with beige stylized painted floral design on dark-brown underglaze, often called "tenmoku" for its use in the Japanese tea ceremony. China, Jizhou, Song Dynasty (960~1279 A.D.). Dimensions: height: 1 13/16" (4,7 cm), diameter: 4 1/2" (11,5 cm). One tiny chip at rim, otherwise very good condition.

Standing female figurine, highly stylized face, geometric large ears, narrow shoulders, protruding breasts, arms alongside long torso, slightly bent legs resting on small feet. Wood, with light-brown glossy patina. Africa, Burkina Faso, Bobo Fing Peoples. Height: 9 1/4" (23,5 cm). Erosion all over, left hand and feet chipped, age cracks, otherwise good condition. The piece is mounted on a custom wood stand. Ex. old French collection.

"Ngontang" helmet mask, hollowed out, of cylindrical shape, with four faces on the sides surmounted by a cross-like relief decor. Irregular large holes around the rim. Standing female figure, finely carved head with scarifications, broad shoulders, arms half raised, conical breasts, protruding abdomen, slightly bent legs resting on rather large feet. Small belt hook of slender curved shape ending with a finely cast dragon head on its top. Round knob at the back for attachment to the belt (now long gone). Bronze, with reddish-green patina, encrusted in some areas. China, Warring States Period (475~221 B.C.). Height: 3" (7,5 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom plexi stand. Rare chief sceptre in the shape of a phallus, surmounted by a geometric design, and four heads surrounding a hole at the very top. Wood, with thick dark encrusted patina. Small ritual cup of rounded shape, with two oval openings. A tiny head has been carved in relief on each side, and each head is framed in an incised geometric design. Wood, with dark-brown semi-glossy patina. Africa, R.D. Congo, Suku Peoples. Tiny slit at the junction of the two openings, obvious signs of use and age, otherwise good condition.

Divination implement, called "katatora", an abstract figure with open rectangular element on rounded base surmounted by a stylized head with carved facial features and backswept coiffure. Hole beneath, maybe for attachment to mount, now gone. Wood, with thick glossy dark-brown patina. Africa, R.D. Congo, Luba Peoples. Height: 5 1/16" (13 cm). Obvious signs of use and great age, otherwise good condition. A rare piece.
