Divination drum, of cylindrical shape. The body of the instrument is hollowed out, and is surmounted by a nicely carved head. Wood, with fine dark-brown glossy patina. Africa, D.R. Congo (ex Zaire), Yaka Peoples. Height: 16" (41cm). Obvious signs of age and use, tiny chips in some areas, erosion all over, otherwise very good condition.

Statue of Kuan Yin,the Chinese Goddess of Mercy, wearing a diadem (on which a tiny Amithaba Buddha is shown at the center) and formal robes, sitting cross-legged, in "abhaya and varada mudra" (hands posture of blessing, protection and charity). Blowgun quiver, with a cylinder darts container made of bamboo, linked to its lid by a rope, and a kind of long hook (to attach the quiver to the hunter's sash) made of wood, with a fine decoration of a wild boar on its top. The hook is attached to the container with three finely woven wicker rings. A coiffe is attached around the upper side of the rim; it is composed of feathers on top, surmounting a raffia and wood structure which is meant to cover the dancer's head.
