Euros 450 

Container made of bamboo, covered with a finely woven bamboo slices basketry. The lid is made of wood, carved in the shape of a human head. Philippines Archipelago, Luzon Island, Ifugao Peoples. Height: 15 1/2" (39,5 cm). Nice dark-brown patina. Obvious signs of use and age, otherwise very good condition. A rare piece, collected in the mid 1970s in situ, during my 20 years stay in Asia.

Very old female ibeji twin figure, with a conical coiffe, arms alongside torso, standing on a rounded base. Wood, with fine, slightly encrusted dark-brown patina. Small necklace made of tiny old glass beads around the neck. Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba Peoples. Height: 10 1/2" (26,5 cm). Chip at the base, tiny and old accidents around the coiffe, erosion, otherwise very good condition. A fine and rather unusual piece.

Ceremonial chief sword, its wood handle in the shape of a cylinder with two striated balls at each tip, its metal rounded blade decorated with pierced through geometric design. Africa, Ivory Coast, Atye People. Length: 18 3/8" (46,5 cm). The sword is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Erosion due to a long use at the handle, strong oxydization on the blade, otherwise good condition.

Large statue of a female sitting on a stool, typical head with open mouth showing teeth, thick angular neck, large pointed breasts, protruding abdomen with scarifications, stylized feet. Wood coloured with dark and white (the latter kaolin) pigments. Africa, Nigeria, Idoma Peoples, mid 20th century. Height: 24 1/2" (62 cm). Reliquary figure carved in the shape of a standing female, with typical coiffe, serene face with scarifications on forehead, conical breasts, hands joined at abdomen level. The statue is resting on a large wood lid, on which it is affixed with soil material. Wood, with partly encrusted dark patina. Africa, Gabon, Punu Peoples. Height: 18 3/4" (47 cm). Wood, with beautiful dark glossy patina. Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba Peoples. Height: 12" (30 cm). Very good condition.

Face mask, of rounded triangular shape, with small ears, eyes pierced through and in a recess, small nose in relief, open pierced through mouth. Two holes under the chin (no damage or danger). Wood, semi-glossy patina. Indonesia, Timor Island. Height: 11 1/2" (29 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Old accident on the right eye, chips around the rim, otherwise good condition.

Old oliphant, carved at its top in the shape of a king sitting cross-legged on a round stool and holding a scepter with both hands, surmounting two slaves in relief on each side, its back opening in the shape of a mouthpiece, and ending at its base in a large opening. Male figure with large triangular head, long torso with protruding navel and small arms, short legs. Brass rings at ears (one making a long chain), navel and around abdomen. Wood, fine reddish-brown dark patina. Africa, D.R. Congo, Azande Peoples. Height: 9" (22,3 cm). Age crack along the left side of the torso, otherwise very good condition.
