Old oliphant, carved at its top in the shape of a king sitting cross-legged on a round stool and holding a scepter with both hands, surmounting two slaves in relief on each side, its back opening in the shape of a mouthpiece, and ending at its base in a large opening. Ivory, with a fine honey coloured patina. Africa, R.D. Congo, Bakongo Peoples, late 19th/early 20th century. Height: 11 1/4" (28,5 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Very fine statue of male ibeji twin, with tall coiffe, eyes with white metal inserts, arms alongside torso, scarifications on abdomen, back and arms, very short legs, large feet resting on a rounded base. Wood, with beautiful dark glossy patina. Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba Peoples. Height: 12" (30 cm). Very good condition.

Reliquary figure carved in the shape of a standing female, with typical coiffe, serene face with scarifications on forehead, conical breasts, hands joined at abdomen level. The statue is resting on a large wood lid, on which it is affixed with soil material. Wood, with partly encrusted dark patina. Africa, Gabon, Punu Peoples. Height: 18 3/4" (47 cm). Large statue of a female sitting on a stool, typical head with open mouth showing teeth, thick angular neck, large pointed breasts, protruding abdomen with scarifications, stylized feet. Small helmet mask in the shape of a human bust resting on a wicker base. Wood, covered with animal skin, human hair. Base made of bamboo slices arranged together and attached to the bust via holes around the bust base. Nice dark brown patina, eyes and teeth coloured with kaolin. Africa, Nigeria, Ekoi Peoples. Beautiful 4-string lute ("saranghi"), the top in the shape of a head holds the four keys, the body itself is made of two parts of heart shape. Wood, with nice dark-brown glossy patina. Very old female ibeji twin figure, with a conical coiffe, arms alongside torso, standing on a rounded base. Wood, with fine, slightly encrusted dark-brown patina. Small necklace made of tiny old glass beads around the neck. Africa, Nigeria, Yoruba Peoples. Height: 10 1/2" (26,5 cm). Chip at the base, tiny and old accidents around the coiffe, erosion, otherwise very good condition. A fine and rather unusual piece.

Beautifully carved butter churner guide ("Ghurra' or "neti"), decorated with a relief rope and chevron design. Wood, with fine dark-brown patina. Himalayan Region. Length: 11 1/4" (23,5 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Obvious signs of use and age, otherwise very good condition. NOTE: the "ghurra" was collected in situ in the early 1970s, during my 20 year stay in Asia.
