Large mask with round coiffe, small ears, concave face with oval pierced through eyes, long triangular nose in relief, small cylindrical mouth also in relief, pointed chin. Wood, with dark-brown glossy patina and traces of white pigment in the recesses. Africa, D.R. Congo/Angola, Lulua Peoples, Lwalwa tribal sub-group. Height: 15 1/4" (39 cm). Statue of a standing male, head carved in detail, long and large neck, narrow shoulders, arms alongside torso, relief breasts, protruding abdomen, obvious genitalia, protruding buttocks, long bent legs, large stylized feet. Hard and heavy wood, brown patina with some encrustation. Africa, Burkina Faso, Lobi Peoples. Height: 29 1/2" (75 cm). Erosion all over and age cracks, otherwise very good condition. Breastplate made of a large central shell surrounded by smaller shells on either side, the whole group attached to a textile narrow belt to the back of which numerous pairs of cauries are also attached. Papua New Guinea, Southern Highlands, early 20th century, maybe earlier. Length (belt): around 37" (92,5 cm). A few side shells maybe missing, otherwise very good condition. Ex. old European collection.

Drum-shaped box, with lid in the shape of stylized horns. Wood, with beautiful incised floral and geometric design. Dark-brown glossy patina. Philippines, Mindanao Island, early 20th century. Height: 10 1/4" (26 cm). A superb and quite rare piece in excellent condition despite its age, typical of the tribal art that region.

Box in the shape of a large egg on an elevated base, with small lid. Wood, with geometric design around body and rooster carved in the round on top of lid. A cord links lid to body. Beautiful dark glossy patina. Indonesia, Sumba Island. Height: 9 1/2" (24 cm). Erosion all over, some small dents, old traces of infestation, otherwise very good condition. A superb, rare and rather unusual piece.

Loom pulley carved in the shape of a chimera surmounting a rectangular open base which originally contained the wheel of the pulley. Wood. South East Asia, Golden Triangle Region Peoples. Small "phurpa" (ritual dagger), its triple pointed "blade" surmounted by three deity heads supporting a stylized feline on top. Wood, with fine dark brown patina. A old piece of fabric covers the central (handling) part, to protect the shaman's fingers from the strong power raised by the phurpa. Himalayan Region, early 20th century, probably earlier. Height: 6 1/8" (15,5 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Very good condition.

Cap mask or headdress carved from wood, covered with antelope skin and with a base of woven basketry for attachment to the head of the masquerade. Two antelope horns are affixed to the top of the mask. Remnants of human hair around the top of the piece. Several holes beneath the upper jaw suggest the former existence of wooden pegs to represent teeth. Africa, Nigeria, Ekoi/Ejagham Peoples, early 20th century, probably older.
