Large statue of a female sitting on a stool, typical head with open mouth showing teeth, thick angular neck, large pointed breasts, protruding abdomen with scarifications, stylized feet. Wood coloured with dark and white (the latter kaolin) pigments. Africa, Nigeria, Idoma Peoples, mid 20th century. Height: 24 1/2" (62 cm). Feminine figure standing on a square base, with a pointed coiffe, her large realistic head with wide eyes, small ears, fine nose, open mouth showing teeth, with large shoulders, pointed breasts, protruding abdomen, hands holding small cylinders, short legs resting on very large feet. Wood, with remnants of brown pigments. Brass nails on coiffe. Africa, D.R. Congo, Bakongo Peoples, Yombe sub-group. Height: 17" (42,5 cm).
