Old ritual dagger ("phurpa"), beautifully carved to represent, from top to bottom, a protruding animal head, three deities busts, a stylized "vajra", and finally a stylized "makara" (water dragon) head on the three-blades point. Typical "zakpai" mask, with circular eyes, protruding mouth with animal teeth. Red cloth and metal circles around the eyes, and red cloth also on the upper lip. Beard made of rope affixed under the chin. The mask itself is made of wood with a nice partly encrusted patina. Africa, Ivory Coast, Dan Peoples, early 20th century. Height: 9 1/4" (23,7 cm).
