Mask of a lady, wearing a formal cap, with a serene face. Wood, with remnants of superimposed pigments, fine patina. China, 18h century. Height: 9" (23 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Obvious signs of use and age, very good condition. NOTE: although the characteristics are not entirely clear, this mask probably represents Xianfeng Xiaojie, (or "Miss Avant-Garde"), a sort of Chinese Joan of Arc, who in ancient times liberated her region from thugs.
