Large comb in the shape of a female figure, holding her breasts, legs open, resting on a plate with geometric design, itself surmounting the comb teeth. Wood, fine dark brown patina. Africa, R.D. Congo, Luba Peoples. Height: 10 1/8" (25,5 cm). The comb is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Erosion all over, three teeth missing, otherwise very good condition.

Highly unusual fetish made from a hornbill, with a superbly carved relief decor of a battle around a temple or palace on the front, and a carved relief decor of a tiger on the beak. The back is closed with a reddish plaster, to allow the hornbill to contain magic material, thus the strong rattle noise when the piece is shaken. Large puppet head representing the head of Garuda, the mythical bird, the vehicle of Vishnu, also a hero of the Ramayana epic. Wood, with remnants of polychrome pigments. Eyes made of red glass. A rather large cup, light celadon colour, with a moulded decor of stylized lotuses, in light relief, in the center, and a decor carved in relief of lotus petals at the back. China Song Dynasty Period (960-1279 A.D.). Dimensions: height: 2 1/2" (6,6 cm), diameter: 7 1/16" (18,1 cm). Remnants of the original silver cover around the rim.
