| Unusual hermaphrodite figurine, in standing posture, typical Pende style head, large and long neck with a goitre, narrow shoulders, small breasts, arms alongside narrow torso but hands not touching hips, small male genitalia, bent legs resting on stylized feet. A small fabric belt is tied around the hips. Wood, brown glossy patina, except for the area around the eyes that has been kept clear. Small dots incised along front of torso to represent scarifications. Africa, D.R. Congo (ex Zaire), Pende Peoples. Height: 11 3/8" (29 cm). Chips at front of feet, some erosion, otherwise good condition. | |||||||
