| Snuff bottle of cylindrical shape, small neck, round base. Porcelain, with superbly painted blue decor on white background depicting a legendary scene with numerous mythical characters including a monkey hero, in a mountainous landscape. Several faded remnants of a red colour applied on some areas. Geometric decor around neck. Modern lapis stopper and bone spoon. China, 19th century, maybe earlier. Height (without stopper): 3 1/4" (8,3 cm). Some erosion, otherwise very good condition. Note: this very finely painted design may be a depiction of the famous Ming Dynasty novel called "The Journey to the West (Si Yeou Ki)". | |||||||
