| Small statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, faceless, wearing monk's robes, in "bhumisparsa mudra", sitting on a semi-circular platform. Tiny hole beneath. Lacquered and gilt wood. Burma, 19th century. Height: 5 1/4" (13,3 cm). Age crack around the neck (no danger), otherwise very good condition. A very nicely carved statue. Note 1: such rare statue was meant for meditation, as the Buddhist believer who used was supposed to "create" or imagine Buddha's face during meditation while watching the statue. Note 2: it is interesting to compare this statue with the one shown on # 1-0289 of our catalogue. Both come from the same old European collection. | |||||||||
