A Fine Hanuman Mask, Himalayas, 19th C.
Realistically and finely carved mask representing the face of Hanuman, the famous Monkey-god, a hero of the Ramayana, the ancient hindu epic. Wood, dark patina with traces of polychrome pigments. Himalayas, 19th century. Height: 11" (27 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Obvious signs of use and age, old crack on top of forehead, erosion, old accidents (chips), otherwise very good condition.
