| Statue of Guan Yu, the God of War, in military costume, standing in martial posture on an hexagonal base. Votive box at the back, lid and contents missing. Very fine carving, nice details. Wood, with remnants of the original lacquering and gilding. China, 18th century, maybe earlier. Height: 9 6/8" (24,8 cm). Right arm missing, otherwise good condition. Note: Guan Yu, the Chinese God of War, was formerly a hero, and was deified later. | |||||||||
