| Mask representing a fierce face, with slanted eyes, a wrinkled nose and an open mouth showing teeth. A circle in relief on its forehead may represent the third eye. Wood with very fine semi-glossy dark-brown patina. Himalayan Region, 19th century. Height: 9 1/2" (24 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand which enhances its strange beauty. Age cracks, obvious signs of long use, otherwise very good condition. Note: this mask may be representing a Buddhist defender of the faith, but of a very unusual kind. | ||||||||||||
