| Large "Ngil" mask, with crescent shaped pierced-through eyes, incised features and ritual scarifications. A large hole for attachment on each side at eye level. Wood, with remnants of white pigment (kaolin) in the recesses. Africa, Gabon, Fang Peoples. Height: 15" (38 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand that enhances its strange beauty. Obvious signs of use and age, some chips and cracks, otherwise very good condition. A very fine and unusual piece, superbly carved by a genuine artist. Ex. old French collection. | |||||||||
