| Nicely carved mask representing the face of God Kaishan, with a fierce expression, two horns, tubular eyes, flat nose, open mouth showing teeth and fangs, large ears. On its forehead, a band with a coin symbol in the middle. Wood, with black and red lacquering. China, 19th century. Height: 9" (22,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Several small chips, otherwise very good condition. Note: God Kaishan belongs to one of the most ancient Chinese mythologies. He was revered by some ethnic groups, living in mountainous regions, seeking protection against evil. | ||||||||||||
