| Face mask carved in the shape of a smiling joker, hair arranged in a knot on top of his head, pierced through eyes, nose and mouth. Polychrome lacquered wood. China, 19th century. Height: 9 6/8" ( 24,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Chip on the right side of the hair, some erosion, otherwise very good condition. NOTE: this mask may represent Xiao Gui, a small demon character of the "Nuo" theater. | |||||||||||
