Himalayan Mask 2, 19th C.
Face mask, protruding forehead, large ears, pierced through oval eyes, small nose with pierced through nostrils, open pierced through rectangular mouth. Wood, with dark encrusted patina. Remnants of small metal pieces around mouth and chin, which were meant to attach goat skin or animal hair, to represent a moustache and beard. Himalayan Region, early 19th century, probably earlier. Height: 11 1/2" (29,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Old insect infestation on top of forehead and inside (no danger). Very good condition. Note: this piece is part of a series of masks which were collected in situ from 1974 to 1979.
