Himalayan Mask 4, 19th C.
Large mask of rectangular shape, with protruding forehead, small pierced through oval eyes, long tubular nose, small ears, open pierced through mouth showing teeth, large chin. Round large hole on each side below ear level and above forehead. Wood, darkish encrusted patina. The mask has kept its original rope, of red colour, for attachment to the dancer's head. Himalayan Region, early 19th century. Height: 12 1/2" (31 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Obvious signs of use and age, very good condition. Note: this piece is part of a series of masks which were collected in the region from 1974 to 1979.
