Silver Portable Buddhist Altar, Tibet, 19th C.
Small Buddhist portable altar ("ghau"), with its lid sliding upwards for opening it and two loops for attachment on its right side. The lid is nicely decorated with an embossed design of a phoenix on top, two dragons on the sides, and the word "Om" in the middle. Silver, with fine darkish patina. Inside the ghau is a small bronze statue of Buddha sitting cross-legged on a double lotus throne and holding a "vajra" in his left hand. Tibet, 19th century. Height (ghau): 2 1/8" (5,5 cm). Very good condition.
