| Statue of Kuan Ti, or Kuan Yu, the God of War, standing on a rounded base in an agressive posture, wearing military costume. His hands were probably holding a sword and a spear, now gone. Wood, with remnants of polychrome pigments. Tiny holes around the eyebrows, under the nose and over the chin were probably used to contain animal hair inserts to suggest real eyebrows, moustache and beard. Small votive box at the back, still closed. China, 18th century, maybe earlier. Height: 14 3/8" (36 cm). Very good condition despite obvious signs of use and great age. | ||||||||||
