| Exquisite Buddhist symbol representing the Wheel of the Buddhist Law, surrounded by other Buddhist symbols on front and back, in an oval frame resting on a stylized double lotus tall base. Finely embossed silver, with, on each side, a coral (at the front) and turquoise (at the back) inlay at the center of the Wheel. Tibet, 19th century. Height: 4 6/8" (12 cm). A superb object in excellent condition. NOTE: there is a magnificent example of such object in the Newark Museum (Newark, New Jersey, USA). The description of the piece mentions that such object is the emblem of sovereignty of Tibetan rulers. Image and portraits of the Dalai Lamas sometimes show them holding the Wheel of the Law. | |||||||||||
