| Lively mask representing the face of Qintong, with a two-tier cap, a wrinkled forehead, long ears, three pierced through holes making the eyes, a small nose with two large pierced through holes, wrinkled cheeks, a large pierced through mouth opened in a crooked smile, a short wrinkled chin. Wood, with large remnants of reddish-brown lacquer. China, early 19th century, maybe earlier. Height: 9 6/8" (25 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Old insect infestation (no more danger), top of cap partly missing, otherwise very good condition. NOTE: among the characters of the traditional Nuo theater in China, Qintong is the crooked servant, or the buffoon. | ||||||||||||
