| Highly unusual fetish made from a hornbill, with a superbly carved relief decor of a battle around a temple or palace on the front, and a carved relief decor of a tiger on the beak. The back is closed with a reddish plaster, to allow the hornbill to contain magic material, thus the strong rattle noise when the piece is shaken. This rare and important piece, originating from Borneo island in Indonesia, must have been acquired from Dayak people by a wealthy Chinese collector, and then carved by a famous artist, at the beginning of the 19th century, maybe earlier. Dimensions: length is around 5 1/2" to 7 1/4" (15 to 18 cm), height is around 3 1/2" (8,5 cm). The piece is in very good condition. | |||||||||||||
