Beautiful 4-string lute ("saranghi"), the top in the shape of a head holds the four keys, the body itself is made of two parts of heart shape. Wood, with nice dark-brown glossy patina. The lower part is covered with animal skin affixed with tiny wood pegs. Himalaya, 19th century. Height: 22 1/4" (55,6 cm). The lute is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Bi faced "ghurra" (churning rod holder) finely carved to represent a back to back, squatting, human couple, man opposite woman. Wood, with nice dark brown glossy patina. Wood, fine dark brown semi glossy patina. Red wax seal form the Nepalese Antiquities Department at the back of the blade. Nepal, 19th century. Obvious signs of wear due to age, otherwise very good condition. Collected in the mid 70s.
