Fine statue of Buddha, in monk's robes, standing on a circular base with a tenon beneath, his left hand holding the robe, his right arm alongside his leg. Bronze, with remnants of the original gilding. Nepal, 15th to 16th century, maybe earlier. Height: 8.3 cm. The statue is mounted on a plexi stand. Very good condition. NOTE: collected in situ in 1974.

Beautifully carved relief fragment representing the head of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, wearing a diadem on which appears a small Buddha Amithaba in meditation sitting on a lotus throne and surrounded by foliage. Avalokiteshvara has a third eye, and a necklace. Stone, with some abrasion. Gandhara Graeco-Buddhist period (1st to 5th century). Height: 18.5 cm. The head is nicely mounted on a custom stand. Intricately carved mask for the Nuo esoteric theater, representing the legendary character of Bao Gong, or Judge Bao, wearing a formal hat, his face in relief with a fierce expression, with bulging eyes, open mouth revealing fangs, and a stylised beard. Important mask of Mahakala, with a fierce expression, his forehead surmounted by a sort of diadem sustaining a range of tiny skulls . Finely embossed iron, with detailed features, and polychrome pigments to enhance some of the mask parts (eyes, teeth, skulls). A thin textile of red colour is affixed to the inside of the mask, probably to protect the dancer's face. Tibet, early 19th century.Height: 24 cm. The mask is nicely mounted on a custom stand. This particular object appears to be the support of a large bronze base, as shown on a picture of similar objects exhibited at the National Historical Museum in Beijing (cat. Well hollowed shadow agate snuff bottle, of classical shape, with a "tao tie" mask in relief on each shoulder. The stopper is made of coral, turquoise and silver with a felt base. The spoon is made of iron. The piece dates back to the Qing Dynasty, 19th century. Its height: 6.4 cm without stopper. Its total height: 8.2 cm. Excellent condition.
