Large funereal mirror, of circular shape, with a concentric decor in relief representing chimeras, mostly tiger-shaped but with claws as paws. This design is directly inspired from the decoration of antique Warring States Period funereal mirrors. Bronze, with fine green patina, with red color areas, a sign of great age. China, Qing Dynasty, early 19th century, maybe earlier. Diameter: 7 3/8" (18,8 cm). Very good condition. NOTE: In ancient China, funereal mirrors were placed on the deceased body or beside it, to ward off evil spirits.
