Guest Book

A very old pair of "edan", each in the shape of a cylindrical stem surmounted by a stylized head with features in relief on the upper part, and terminating on the lower part in a long point. The upper part is made of bronze, with a nice reddish-green patina, and the lower part is made of iron. These edan were worn by a member of the Ogboni secret society, which existed among the Yoruba tribes, in Nigeria, Africa. This particular pair dates back to the 19th century, and was part of an old English collection. Height: 10" and 10 1/2" (25,2 and 26,8 cm). The pair is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Strong oxydation on the points, otherwise very good condition.
