Embossed pendant decorated with a scene depicting the attack of a lion on a bull. Two loops on top, adorned with glass or semi-precious stone inserts, allowed attachment to a necklace. The pendant is made of 18 K gold, with remnants of soil encrustations. Graeco-Buddhist art, Gandhara, 1st to 3rd century. Height: 4.3 cm. Very good condition. Provenance: acquired from a Paris antique dealer in 1978.
NOTE: the decoration of this pendant is very similar to the one found on ancient Greek coins (see photo # 6 of a Greek silver coin).
